Roberta

We are teaching an afterschool offering called “Roberta—Learning with Robots.” The course is optional for kids in the Ganztagsbetreuung, taking place weekly for 50 minutes in the late afternoon. The Roberta program, a nationwide initiative, aims to support youngsters, Roberta in particular girls, in developing a long term interest and engagement in information technology and the natural sciences.

During our sessions we use Lego Mindstorms kits, a generous gift from donors, to build robots out of Lego blocks and then program them with actual programming software to perform certain actions. During the school year we had two different groups—one for girls and one for boys—take part in this offering. The kids and I had a lot of fun building and trying out different commands!
